Mission Statement
The Alba Middle School Library Media Center program encourages individuals to become information literate and emphasizes the love of reading and learning. The program will enable individuals to access, analyze, assimilate, and use information and technology effectively.
Goals
Increase access to the Library Media Center
Support and impact the learning process.
Stimulate student, parent, school, and community partnerships.
Emphasize the love of reading and learning.
Schedule
Open, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday from 7:30am - 2:30pm.
Individual students or student groups may come any time to the library during class with a pass (Limit 5 students per class at one time, please)
Teachers may bring whole classes or large groups to use the library facilities and/or resources (Sign up on library calendar, please)
After planning a collaborative lesson with the library media specialist, the teacher may bring a class for an information literacy or technology instruction (See the library media specialist for more information, please)
Teachers may plan meetings, workshops, or other gatherings before, during and after school (Sign up on library calendar, please)
Circulation Policy
Students are allowed to check out two printed titles and/or one electronic book for a two week time period. Lost or damaged materials should be brought to the media specialist’s attention immediately. It will be the responsibility of the student to pay for the replacement cost of any damaged or lost materials. Note: special permission will be granted for additional checkouts based on project and need.
Faculty, staff, and parents are allowed to check out printed and electronic materials, dvds, and class sets as needed. Furthermore, teachers may check out Galaxy tablets and iPads for classroom use. Students are allowed to checkout devices for use during the school day for projects with a pass from a teacher.
Fines
Students will not be charged fines for late books. However, students are encouraged to return or renew books promptly so that other patrons have access to these materials. Students will not be allowed to check out additional materials until the book has been returned or renewed.
Services
Students may place titles on hold at the circulation desk. Once the title becomes available, the titles will be checked out to the patron and delivered in a timely manner.
Patrons have access to black and white printing at a cost of ten cents per page.
Computers may be used during school hours, before school with a pass (7am-7:25am), and after school until 3:00 pm during assigned projects. All computers have internet access. Students may also request use of the green room (with Tricaster capabilities) and the iMac computer for movie making. The media specialist will also assist all patrons with usernames and passwords for programs used within the school system.
Students are rewarded quarterly for achieving AR goals. Students who read a million words or more by the first week in May as determined through the AR program will be rewarded and become a member of the Millionaires’ Club.

This program is used weekly by every student at Alba. Reading and math paths are individualized for each student based on ability. Edgenuity can be accessed from home.
